Asian restaurants in Toronto

The best Chinese restaurants in Toronto represent just a portion of the diverse variety of regional offerings accessible here. And though many would argue you need to really go to Richmond and Markham Hill to get the actual deal, Scarborough our downtown Chinatowns and parts in between still have their share of winners.

House of Gourmet

This restaurant near Dundas and Spadina seems poor in the outside but is a constant hub of action, with excellent dishes like satay beef noodles and claypot tofus. It even has a BBQ joint that is devoted takeout, perfect for those nights when you just wish to feast on your own sofa on pork or duck.

Qin Tang Taste

Home to the awesomely chewy biang biang noodles as well as other Shanxi specialties, this little Scarborough restaurant is in fact the first Toronto location of a big Beijing-based chain. My personal favourite? The Shanxi Slit Noodle with Stir Fried Pork Pieces. Dish that is delicious, long name.

Taste of China

The fantastically clumsy name doesn’t detract from the fact Taste of China is, for many, a taste of superiority. Popular among the late night crowd for sizzling seafood on skillets and its exceptional General Tao Chicken, it’s one of the places that you just must go when you’re in downtown Chinatown.

Luckee

This upscale restaurant from Susur Lee inside the Soho Met features all-day dim sum, sweet-delectable Wuxi spare ribs and fancy cocktails, all served under the glow of some garish quasi- lightings and stereotypical Chinese decorations.

Hong Shing Chinese Restaurant

The longstanding institution near City Hall might be a bit greasy however they make an oh-so-satisfying Sizzling Chili Chicken and General Tao Chicken. Wash it all down with cocktails with names such as the Stormy Night in Hong Kong.

Congee Wong (Finch and Leslie)

There are a lot of Congee Wongs around that it can make your head spin, but for my money my favourite one is the North York place. Sure it could get crowded during mealtimes, but at least it’s open late, as well as their Cantonese Chow Mein Fried Chili Turnip Patties never fails to make me grin.

Rol San

This late-night Chinatown favourite is constantly jam-packed with those who can not get enough of their classics like spicy ginger steak and ho supporter noodles. Not to mention, it has an incredibly popular all-day dim sum.

Sam Woo BBQ

This Scarborough mainstay continues to be meeting old school Cantonese BBQ pork enthusiasts for more than twenty years. Soft and absolutely crispy roast pork skin BBQ pork meat blended with old-school unfussy décor makes for an incredible meal.
